Just to let you know, typical clean up of a system takes about 8 hours+. Yikes! A slow computer and slow internet connection could take several days for complete clean up.
Do these first two steps if you really want to ensure a faster vista computer:
1. Make a backup: boot into acronis true image and image your computer.
2. install a new hard drive.
Turn off UAC: start/control panel/user accounts/turn off UAC.
Turn off superfetch: start/control panel/admin tools/services. disable superfetch
Turn off disc indexing. start/control panel/programs & features/'turn windows features on&off'/uncheck disc indexing.
Turn off defragmentation. start, type in 'defragment'. run disk deframenter. check to run on a schedule. run it monthly.
Turn off power saving features. start/control panel/power management/advanced power management.
Disable multiple antivirus programs, ie don't have norton antivirus and AVG and windows defender. Boot into safe mode (F8 during startup). Uninstall all off them. Let windows complain about no antivirus. reboot many times until all antivirus is gone. Do windows update until defender is working. Run cccleaner and clean up all the garbage.
