After installing xubuntu 14.04 Trusty, the autologin didn't work for me. I set the option shown above in All settings/Users and groups, but no luck. So I just opened a terminal and ran:
sudo mousepad /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/10-xubuntu.conf
added the line under [SeatDefaults] (shown below in pastebin)
autologin-user=jay
and sure enough, autologin worked for me.
